It’s Official (The Move)

Okay, I finally got the blog up and running on motherduce.com. Don't know why it took me this long, but I've had the domain forever, just got hooked using the wordpress.com account, I guess.

But, on to bigger and better things, with more customization, etc. So from now on, you 1 or 2 readers I might think I have, can go here for my rants and raves and other ridiculousness (that's not a word, is it?).

AntiVirus Rant (Part 1)

Personally, I think antivirus software is the biggest scam around. If you’re relatively smart and secure with what you download and open on your computer (Mac or other), and if you’re running through a router or firewall, chances are nothing’s ever going to happen. Pair that with incremental backups, and I’m pretty confident in my setup, and I have both a XP machine and a Mac. Neither is running antivirus.

If I do end up being stupid, and getting a virus on my machine, I may lose a few days’ worth of data, but probably nothing terribly important (since I backup after I do anything of major importance).

Antivirus software and it’s damn renewing subscriptions is a ripoff - instead, why not just be SMART about what you do on your comptuer, for FREE!

DailyTech - Seagate Leaks 750GB Barracuda 7200.10 Details

My rant on hard drives:

It's been a while since I last ranted. Now it's time for hard drives. After reading the article (linked below) about Seagate's new 750GB hard drive, I'm just bewildered by the recent launches of hard drives and the press they've gotten. Between all my computers and external HDs, I have almost 1 TB of storage space at home. My rant on this subject is that why the heck are all these companies releasing 750GB HDs? Why do we need one? Anybody who needs 750GB worth of storage likely has room for multiple HDs in their machines, or the ability to use external HDs. It's cheaper to get multiple 250GB or 300GB HDs than it is to buy one 750GB HD.

I just wish the damn HD companies would work more on increasing the capacity to 1-2TB and increasing the speed, and lower their prices, rather than working on and releasing all these minor incremental updates to old technology. I want a 10,000 RPM 500GB Drive, not another release of a slightly larger 7200 RPM drive. Bah!
